WILLS and ADMONS relating to GLASBY

On the next page you will find a list of Glasby Wills and Admons I collected details of from the Probate Office when it was at Somerset House, which then moved to First Avenue House in Islington London.  In August 2001 I further recorded Glasby Wills up to 1998,  so now have listed 1858-1998.

Obtaining probate details on line

You can search the Wills indexes online for a Will or to get a copy of a Will, by  applying to the Probate Office on line at:-    https://www.gov.uk/wills-probate-inheritance, select “Search for probate records”.

You have to put in a name and a year, so you need an idea of when the person died.  It will show you the page in the Will index books with that surname on. Remember that Wills are sometimes proved  a year or two after the death, and sometimes if involved in a court case several years later.  The last time I ordered a Will the cost was £10.

TAKE NOTE:- Will’s are varied in how much detail they have, some can just say eg: “I bequeath all my belongings to………………….”signed…………..). They can mention lots of names and possessions but on the other hand mention just the sole benefactor.

Some online subscription sites also now have the probate indexes in their search facility eg: Ancestry.

WILLS LIST – see the next page with the details of the wills up to 1940. Any years with nothing written alongside means I found no entries for Glasby in that year, I have listed the years just to show which years I had checked.
